How does a Search Engine Optimization Specialist different from your average developer?

Search Engine Optimization is not a skill that is acquired in a class-room; it takes years of applied experience... Im going to try to let you step into my shoes for a day.

   I am a Search Engine Optimization Specialist, the entire complex process has become like second nature to me. You can read hundreds of articles online to try to learn all the secrets, but in the end it makes no difference until you implement it.

How does one become a Search Engine Optimization Specialist?
Years of trial and error, managing thousands of websites, and most of all a person who has a gift for recognizing patterns and trends. Any fool can buy a book about Optimization, and follow directions... but if that was the key, then why doesnt everyone have a top 10 website?

Think about it like this, make beleive you worked for Google. Every month you see a bunch of new websites climb to the top of your listings; you must ask why or how. What makes those websites any different? Do they deserve top rankings, or are they trying to manipulate the system to acheive them?

That is what sets apart a true Search Engine Optimization Specialist / Expert, from the people who regurgitate something they read. I never go into a new project with a defined set of Optimization rules, I never try to implement special tricks... Instead I just Optimize each on an individual basis, and let the rest fall into place. (which it always does).

A fake SEO Expert will do the same thing on every website he works on, regardless of whether or not his strategies are outdated. When I come into a new project, it is more with a vision for the future. Think about it, if five years ago you brought your website to a so-called Search Engine Optimization Specialist, chances are they would just copy and paste some meta tags, and keyword spam the rest of your website... hoping to flood the search engine with your keywords to increase positioning.

So now here you are five years later, and the Search Engines will all recognize your keyword spamming instantly; getting your website banned for life. It is a tricky business, so make sure you only hire a true expert for your Optimization!
