The Linux vs. Windows Debate

So which Operating System is better?
Linux or Windows?

The debate about which operating system is best... Linux or Windows.

Linux / Windows - Lets start with what an operating system actually is.

An Operating System is something that we take for granted nowadays. Nobody knows how the computer works, they just know it works. Without an Operating system your computer would just be a big paperweight.

Think of it like this... When you plug in a light-bulb it just turns on. When you turn on a computer, it is exactly the same thing.

Electricity is ran through the computer, or the light-bulb... The only difference is the computer modifies the incoming charge, and manipulates it from the smallest level. It starts out, just like the light bulb... just incoming energy. Then it must modulate it by using ONs and OFFs (0s and 1s).

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) does the low level stuff, and it also chooses where to go after it is running---> Hard Drive ---> Operating System.

LINUX vs. WINDOWS Whats the difference between Linux & Windows?

The number one difference is how they are made. This difference is what will most likely determine the winner in the Operating System race for the future.

Windows, as you all probably know, was created by the Microsoft Corporation. Linux on the other hand was created by a man named, Linus Torvalds, and is touted as better and faster than Linux... but there are complications.

I personally think that Linux is the better operating system (in theory)... but the problem is the basic laws of Supply and Demand. Far, far more people in the world use Windows... and Microsoft is fighting to keep it that way. Since there is much higher demand in the Windows sector, most programs/software is made for the Windows operating system.

Linux is better, because it is honest!
How can an operating system be *honest*, you ask?

When Windows was created it was made for PROFIT.
When Linux was created it was made FREE, and open to everyone.

Linux is OPEN SOURCE. Open Source means that every part of the operating system that makes the system run is public information, and out there for anyone to read and/or make better.

Linux will be the superior operating system in the future because of this. When there is a problem with Windows, Bill Gates has to pay his programmers every-time to patch it. Whereas with Linux, it is open source... therefore no person owns in, so any person / company can come in at any time and make Linux even better.

Think about the concept behind each...
LINUX- Free, made for the people.
WINDOWS- EXPENSIVE, made for profit!!!
